Employee Spotlight: Leah May

We would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to our Client Services Director, Leah May!

This blog post spotlights Leah and lets you learn more fun facts about her.

1. How long have you been with E&A Team, and what do you do here?

I started working part-time for E&A in the Spring of 2018 and came on full-time in the Summer of 2020 after finishing my PhD. Currently, I serve as the Client Services Director and help coordinate in-office operations as well as plan review and construction inspection projects.

2. What is your favorite thing about working for E&A Team?

As an employee at E&A, I appreciate not only the work we do, but also the culture we work in and the leadership we work under. Mark and Lori have worked diligently to establish a “family first” mentality within our business, and this is extended to us both on an individual basis (with our own families) as well as on a professional basis (as a member of the “E&A family”). This shapes our entire approach to business and makes it very easy to value my position here.

3. How have you grown as an individual since working for E&A Team?

I came to E&A with no foundational knowledge of fair housing or accessibility, and I have learned SO MUCH in the various roles I have been in since joining the team. I’ve also been challenged to become a better colleague and employee while also growing as a leader.

4. What is one of your proudest moments at E&A Team?

My proudest E&A moment came last year around Christmas time. Our office wanted to do something to give back to our community and chose to partner with a local organization that was providing care baskets for foster families in Tuscaloosa. This was a completely voluntary activity that was presented to us by our leadership team, but everyone gave generously, and we were able to sponsor baskets for 9 different families. Knowing the year everyone had endured and the continued strains and pressures of the pandemic, I was so proud to be part of this crew that sought to bless others despite it all.

5. What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I guess a little-known fact about me would be that I have been a nanny on several occasions for a very popular WWE wrestler in recent years. This involved four rambunctious kiddos, traveling to New York and sitting ringside for Wrestlemania, and even joining in on a family cruise! Knowing this family has definitely been an unexpected adventure.

6. What are some of your favorite things?

I am a big sports fan (specifically Braves baseball and Alabama football), but I also really like to be active, exercise, and engage in sports in the community (i.e. ultimate frisbee and volleyball). I love spending lots of time with family and making great memories with friends as we travel, attend concerts, hike, experience new things, and just do life together. I am also really enjoying the church I attend in Tuscaloosa and getting to partner with the people there to pursue Jesus and serve the community together.

7. What would your perfect day off include?

Sleeping in would be a must, but after that I would plan to enjoy some time outside in the cool weather (maybe go on a hike or have lunch with friends in a new place), get in a fun workout at the gym, and then bundle up for a good game or movie.
